What Is a Spiritual Cleansing and Why Does It Work?

Spiritual cleansing has been part of human practice for as long as there have been humans.

Every culture on earth, across every period of recorded history, has had some form of it. The tools and traditions vary, different herbs, different prayers, different rituals, but the underlying understanding is the same: energy accumulates. And not all of it is energy we want to carry.

I have been preparing spiritual supplies and doing cleansing work for over forty years. Long before I had a business, before I had a team, before I had clients calling from across the country, I was learning the properties of herbs and roots and understanding the relationship between the physical world and the energetic one. That knowledge is not something I acquired overnight, and it is not something I treat casually. When I do cleansing work, I do it with deep intention and respect for the traditions behind it.

What Negative Energy Actually Is

People sometimes picture negative energy as something dramatic, an evil presence, a dark cloud hovering over a person or a house. It can manifest in dramatic ways, but more often, it is quieter than that. It is the residue of stressful events. The emotional imprint left by conflict in a space. It is the energetic weight we pick up from other people, from difficult environments, from our own unprocessed experiences.

A person who has been under sustained spiritual attack or living in a high-conflict environment for a long time may start to feel drained, foggy, or unable to move forward in ways that do not quite make rational sense. Their circumstances may change but nothing seems to shift. These are signs that the energetic environment needs attention.

What a Spiritual Cleansing Involves

The tools I reach for depend on the situation. Every home, every person, every case is different and calls for a different approach. But my all-time go-to is an Ancestor Resin I've worked with for years, burned to call in support from those who came before and to clear what's settled into a space. I am not suggesting that a spiritual cleansing replaces practical action, medical care, or the hard personal work of growth and healing. It does not. But the energetic dimension of our lives is real, and when that dimension is neglected or polluted, it affects everything else. Clearing it creates conditions in which good things can take root and grow.
